Japanese power tool manufacturer Makita has added a number of new cordless models to its product portfolio, for various applications.

The new DKP181 18V Brushless LXT Planer from Makita

Chief among them is the new 82mm DKP181 18V Brushless LXT Planer. Part of Makita’s 18V series, the planer is powered by a single 18V lithium-ion battery and incorporates a brushless motor that delivers up to 12,000rpm.

With a maximum planing depth of 3mm, width of 82mm and a rebating depth of 25mm, the DKP181 features an electric blade brake to prevent injury.

Said to be up to 50% more efficient than models with standard motors, the planer includes Automatic Torque Driver (ADT) technology that changes the cutting speed depending on load conditions.

Kevin Brannigan, Marketing Manager at Makita UK, said, “This tool provides power, versatility and optimum cutting performance. We have included the dust management feature to help reduce time spent on cleaning up and more time for operators doing what they are skilled at – getting the job done.”

Makita said its Auto-start Wireless System (AWS), which uses Bluetooth to connect to compatible dust extractors to minimise dust inhalation, is available as an optional extra.

Maktia’s DRV250Z rivet gun

The manufacturer has also introduced the DRV150Z and DRV250Z rivet guns, which are designed for heavy-duty and industrial applications, and can pull stainless-steel rivets of up to 4.8mm and 6.4mm in diameter, respectively.

A change of nose cone and push rod assembly allows both models to be adjusted to install 2.4mm rivets up to their maximum capacity.

Compatible with 5Ah and 6Ah LXT batteries, the rivet guns also include a rivet holding mechanism in the nose cone and a brushless motor.

According to Makita, the models’ improved efficiency allows operators to use the tools for extended periods of time, as the “brushless motors do not create friction, which limits wear and tear and reduces wasted energy through heat production”.

The DUR368A Brushless LXT Brush Cutter

Brannigan said, “The combination of cordless and brushless technologies makes Makita’s new models up to 50% more efficient than alternative machines.”

Makita has also introduced a cordless twin 18V Brushless Brush Cutter for commercial operators and landscapers, as well as the DUB184Z Brushless Blower for gardening and maintenance applications.
