Flyer GMT and 39mm. Let's go.

The big show has just kicked off and things are looking pretty sweet in Geneva as Tudor has just launched a brand new GMT sport watch called the Black Bay Pro. Let's get right down to the metal here, it's 39mm wide, has a fixed steel 24-hour bezel, and rocks the BB GMT's MT5652 movement for full "flyer" GMT function.

Clearly inspired by watches like the Rolex 1655 Explorer II, the Black Bay Pro has a domed matte black dial set in a satin-finished steel case with a matching brushed steel 24-hour bezel. Water resistance is 200 meters and the Black Bay Pro can be had with a steel bracelet, a NATO-like fabric strap, or a new hybrid rubber and fabric two-piece strap. The case is 14.6mm thick and lug width is a strap-friendly 20mm.

Priced from $3,675 on either strap or $4,000 on the steel bracelet, the Black Bay Pro uses the same MT5652 movement we've seen in the current (and now growing) Black Bay GMT lineup. That means 70 hours of power reserve, a rate of 4 Hz, and an instantaneous date display that is tied to the local hour hand (as it should be).

I mean... I could say as little as "I love it," but I'm also willing to elaborate. I am a huge and vocal proponent of so-called "flyer GMTs" that offer the ability to jump the local hour hand when the wearer enters a new time zone. With a colorway that is in the same space as the now-discontinued North Flag, the Black Bay Pro has a specifically vintage-inspired look that sets it apart from Tudor's other GMT options.

And it's 39mm! Clearly, the success of the much loved Black Bay Fifty-Eight has started to inform a wider consideration of Tudor's product plan and I think it's a perfect size, replicating the easy-wearing charm of the Fifty-Eight while leaning hard against the appeal of watches like the 1655 and the later 16570.

I know I say this a lot, but I cannot wait to see the Black Bay Pro in the metal. It's the right size, has an ideal feature set, a proven aesthetic, and sits right alongside the Fifty-Eight in terms of price. Stay tuned for a hands-on quite literally as soon as I can get my camera over to the show.
